El Equimite is a farm in Veracruz, located between the Gulf of Mexico and Cofre del Perote National Park, a mountain and volcano range peaking at 4,282masl. Because of this elevation, the region is know for its unique microclimate called bosque mesofilo, translated as cloud forest. The region has many days of mist and cool temperatures, which has always made it ideal for arabica plantations.
Gibran Cervantes bought El Equimite in 2012 and transitioned an abandoned farm into a productive biodynamic ecosystem. There are only 2 Demeter certified coffee farms in Mexico, and less than 10 in all Latin America.
El Equimite is the name of an endemic tree that you can find in the farm, as well as many other species of trees, orchids, medicinal plants, coffee varietals and animals.
The key to El Equimite's success is its soil. Everything is done with the aim at making the soil healthy, full of living microorganism who will make all nutrients available for the coffee plants to grow.
