With single dose grinding taking over the domestic grinder world, it was only a matter of time before an 83mm burr single dose grinder was developed and here it is, the DF83!
This grinder is a serious piece of kit. It has 83mm burrs which make for a super fast grind speed with amazing consistency, it is powered by a 550W motor, enough power to easily go through light roast speciality coffee and it is as close to zero retention as any single dose grinders we have tested at Bella Barista.
It may look like a scaled-up version of its predecessor the Solo DF64 but in comparison it is finished with much more finesse. The aluminium body has an anodized paint finish and the top dial looks to be finished with glass rather than plastic, making it feel more premium. They upgraded the grinds chute and it is now painted in the same colour as the body.

A few of our customers who purchased the DF64 found they wanted to do some modification for top performance. This has grown a whole industry of 3D printed parts and accessories on various reseller sites. However, you will find with the most recent iteration of the Solo DF64 has come with additional features and upgrades to combat the need to purchase modifications elsewhere.
Straight out of the box the DF83 comes with any extras you may need to make the perfect shot of espresso and requires no extra modification.
This is a great flat burr grinder with superior build quality, exceptionally fast grinding, all at a price that is unheard of for an 83mm burr grinder. If you like the DF64 you will love the DF83 coffee grinder. If you didn’t like the DF64 then the DF83 is definitely worth considering this as it is a much superior model. It's the smallest 83mm burr grinder we have ever seen at Bella Barista, and would not look out of place paired with any of the espresso machines in our range.
